MNAC

Entering through the Venetian towers of Barcelona in María Cristina avenue we will see the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC). Just outside the Museum are located four stone columns, an emblem of the city of Barcelona which represents the four bars of the Catalan flag.

MNAC is one of the best places to have a good view of the entire city and to learn about the Catalan culture. The best-kept secret in the area is the Magic Fountain of Montjuic. These artificial sources are a demonstration of human ingenuity and creativity to make it an attractive place with the beauty of water. Montjuic Magic fountain is one of those things you shouldn’t miss in your trip to Barcelona.

In addition, the Montjuic fountains are used during the annual festival of fireworks named “Piromusical de la Mercè”, which takes place during the local Festivity of the city (La Mercè) at the end of September. Light, fireworks, music and water forms are mixed to make an impressive performance open to everyone.

The National Art Museum of Catalonia is a palace that was built in 1929 due to the Barcelona International Exposition, which took place in 1929. However, it is for its Romanesque and Gothic exhibitions that MNAC is an international recognized museum.

Other buildings that you can visit in the area of Montjuic are the Miró Museum, the Museum of Ethnography, Museum of Anthropology and the CaixaForum. They are relatively far away from the city and hold an added interest because they are located between the greenery and nature of the Montjuic mountain.

Access to Montjuic

To get to the National Art Museum of Catalonia is fully recommended to use the public transport as the best option. The meeting point is Plaça España (Metro, line 3 and line 1).
