Park Guell

Park Guell, by Antoni Gaudí

Full of symbolism, it is the urban park designed by the famous architect Antoni Gaudí. Park Guell was built in 1914 and it is part of the heritage of humanity since 1984. It is a garden in the middle of Bacelona city and it is full of modernist architecture. It is a tourist attraction throughout the year for both city residents and tourists Barcelona

We see the naturalist epoch Antoni Gaudí in every small corner of the park. There are different ways to represent natural elements such as stalactites, colored mosaics or columns that simulate palms. There is also a significant number of common plants of the Mediterranean in the park, which make it a beautiful place. The Park Guell has an extension of 17 hectares.

Park Guell lizard

The most famous place in the park (and also one of the most famous images of the city of Barcelona) is the Park Guell Lizard (also known as Park Guell Dragon), which is a lizard covered with mosaic in the entrance of the park.

History of the park

Park Guell was designed to be an affluent neighborhood to the burgeoisie but it didn’t succeed. This is why you can easily find in the park many modernist houses that where conceibed for reach people.

Curiosities of the Park Guell

The park has a total of six entries, so access to the park is fast and easy from any of the streets that surround it. One of the relevant elements inside the Park Guell are the wards of the entries. The wards are two small buildings made of stone and ceramics that give way to one of the entrances.

Another appropriate place in the center of Park Guell is the square with an edge of snake, where you can enjoy one of the best views of Barcelona. The snake is 110 meters long and it was made with the mosaic technique.

Within the Park Guell is located the Gaudí Museum, which was the residence of Antonio Gaudi for a few years. Obviously the building is open to public and is full his works that can be visited, as well.

How do I get to Park Guell?

Every day of the year the park is opened and the admission is free to everyone. The best option to get to Park Guell is use the public transport (bus), although Park Guell is also in the tourist bus routes.

It is not recommended to go to Park Guell by bike because you will have to cycle uphill, what will be an even worse choice in summer!
